Installation Guide

Mounting

The Iridium antenna is inside the enclosure, so the enclosure itself must see the sky.

  • Mount outdoors with an unobstructed view of the sky and horizon in every direction. Metal roofs, canopies, masts and cabling above the device reduce the number of visible satellites and increase delivery time.
  • Mount flat with the logo facing up toward the sky. Do not mount vertically or upside down.

Power

Use one power source and never connect several at once.

SourceRequirement
DC via CAN1 pin 69-36 VDC, always on (not switched by the ignition). A 1 A fuse is normally sufficient.
USB-C5 V supply that can deliver at least 500 mA.

The modem draws the majority of the current, see Electrical Characteristics.

Wiring

Status LEDs

The Data Logger has two LEDs. Each indication is a short blink, nothing stays lit.

On power-up both LEDs run a rainbow sequence for about a second to confirm power.

LEDColorMeaning
LED1GreenIridium network is available
LED1RedNo network in view or coverage
LED1BlueData is being sent
LED2BlueVE.Direct data received

LED1 blinks about every 3 seconds with the current modem status.

Commissioning

  1. Power the device with a clear view of the sky.
  2. Connect to the satlog-logger-xxxx WiFi network, see WiFi, and open http://192.168.4.1.
  3. Confirm the modem reports a network and signal, and that the equipment you connected shows data under CAN bus, Bluetooth or Victron.
  4. Use Queue status ping to send a status message over satellite and verify delivery in your account.

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely cause
Unstable operation or no network when powered over USBThe USB supply cannot deliver 5 V at 500 mA. Use a different port or charger, or power over DC.
LED1 red or signal stays at 0The antenna lacks a wide view of the sky and horizon. Move the device or remove obstructions.
No CAN or VE.Direct dataCheck cable and connector, and that the LED2 / status page counters increment when equipment is connected.
